「懐」 Kai

 “Kai” (懐) can be read as “futokoro” (bosom), “natsukashii” (nostalgic), “natsuku” (to be attached to), and “omou” (to think).

 Perhaps, feelings hidden within one's bosom, longing for something, are what is expressed by the word “Kai(懐)=Omoi(懐い).”

 Turning her back on the light that pierces through the darkness, she meditates.

Is it a longing (Omoi 懐い) that cannot be fulfilled as things stand in the “now”?

Or is it the nostalgic yearning for a “past” that could never be achieved?

Or perhaps, it is the hidden determination for a “future.”

 No one knows the thoughts hidden in the depths of her unlit bosom.

「懐」は、カイのほかに、ふところ、なつかしい、なつく、おもう、

などの読み方があります。ふところに秘めた想い、なつかしむ想い、

そんな思いを「懐い」と書くのでしょう。　

暗闇に射す光に背を向けて　彼女は黙想する　

「今」のままではかなわぬ懐いか　

かなわなかった「過去」をなつかしむ懐いか　

あるいは「未来」を決意する秘めたる懐いか　

光の当たらないふところ奥のおもいを誰も知らない
